Driving License

Driving licenses are issued under Section 1 to 11 of the Motor Vehicles Act, Rule 3 to 21 of CMVR, 1989 read with Rule 3 to 19 of the SMVR, 1991.In the State of Sikkim driving licenses are being issued by the Motor Vehicles Department through its four Regional Transport Offices.

Under the project “Comprehensive e-Governance Solution in the Transport Sector” with its strong determination to implement SARATHI software’s. Sarathi is for processing Driving Licence and related activities. It can be used to issue a Learner’s Licence, Permanent Driving Licence, Conductor Licence and also Driving School Licence to the applicant.

The applicant must be signed by applicant or

the guardian.

All light vehicles not used for carrying

passengers/goods for hire are covered in this

category.

Transport vehicles

20 years

All buses, lorries, taxis auto rickshaws etc.

fall in this category.
